Sigma-Aldrich unit launches new genetically-engineered cells
Sigma-Aldrich's biological products division Sigma Life Science has entered the genetically modified cell market for the first time with the launch of a new range of products.
The company's range of immortalised mammalian cell lines have been specially engineered using CompoZr zinc finger nuclease technology and gene silencing, allowing them to be studied for specific biological applications.
Cell lines are being launched with a variety of cellular markers which are expected to aid in pharmaceutical and life science research, such as studies into colorectal and breast cancer treatments.
The firm will also be offering a custom cell line engineering service which allows researchers to acquire cells which specifically match their needs.
Dr Supriya Shivakumar, global commercial marketing manager for functional genomics at Sigma Life Science, said: "By offering complete modified cell lines alongside our portfolio of advanced bioediting technologies, we can provide a complete range of solutions to help accelerate our customers' research."
Last month, Sigma-Aldrich announced a new collaboration with SwitchGear Genomics to create a new microRNA target reporter system that will be easier to use than existing technology.
