Sotax announces Dr Schleuniger Pharmatron takeover

Sotax has strengthened its global leadership position as a solution provider for the pharmaceutical industry through the takeover of Dr Schleuniger Pharmatron.

Based in Switzerland, Dr Schleuniger Pharmatron specialises in the engineering and manufacturing of equipment for the physical testing of pharmaceutical dosage forms, including tablets, capsules, ampoules and other solid dosage options.

Following the acquisition, Sotax will become the world's largest manufacturer of equipment for testing the physical properties of new drug dosage forms, with Dr Schleuniger Pharmatron's various products complementing those already offered by Sotax.

The newly-acquired firm's Swiss site in Thun will remain as a separate entity and become the hub of Sotax's physical testing business, while its US operations will be absorbed by the group.

Thomas Pfammatter, chief executive officer of the Sotax Group, said: "The acquisition and integration of Dr Schleuniger Pharmatron is a further step towards ensuring sustainable growth by strengthening our innovation leadership."

Earlier this year, the firm expanded further with the opening of a new office in the Czech Republic, thus bolstering its presence in eastern Europe.
