St Jude Medical study shows benefits of Nanostim leadless pacemaker
St Jude Medical has reported new clinical data showing the advantages associated with its Nanostim leadless pacemaker technology.
Three presentations at the Heart Rhythm Society's annual scientific sessions have demonstrated the retrievability of the leadless pacemaker and its long-term safety, as well as the absence of complications associated with Nanostim compared to traditional pacemakers with leads.
The world's first commercially approved leadless pacemaker, the device has been available in Europe since 2013 and offers an improved quality of life for patients, particularly those with changing medical conditions that may necessitate removal of implanted devices.
In the LEADLESS II IDE study and the LEADLESS observational study across Europe, the Nanostim leadless pacemaker was successfully retrieved in 14 patients up to 3.2 years post-implantation without any serious adverse events.
Dr Mark Carlson, vice-president of global clinical affairs and chief medical officer at St Jude Medical, said: "We are extremely pleased to see these three presentations provide additional insight into the potential benefits associated with the Nanostim leadless pacemaker."
The company recently reported financial results at the upper end of its expectations for the first quarter of 2016.
