Steris and St Jude Medical announce cardiac laboratory alliance

Steris has announced a collaboration with St Jude Medical that will focus on helping healthcare providers with the planning and implementation of advanced cardiac laboratories.

The companies will be assisting US medical professionals to develop cardiac laboratories that are able to seamlessly share information and inter-operate across the clinical workflow, thus improving efficiency and enhancing coordination of care.

Steris will contribute technology such as the Harmony LED surgical lighting and visualisation system and Harmony iQ high-definition surgical integration system, while St Jude Medical will provide innovations that include the EnSite Velocity cardiac mapping device and MediGuide technology.

Meanwhile, Steris' room design services will make it easier for these technologies to be seamlessly integrated.

Bill O'Riordan, vice-president and general manager of the Steris Surgical Solutions group, said: "The relationship we have with St Jude Medical is a pioneering collaboration and the opportunity it offers to healthcare providers on the electrophysiology frontier is unique."

This comes after the company allied with Toshiba America Medical Systems in December 2011 to create a series of innovative new hybrid surgical suites, using technology from both partners.
