Tecan appoints new management board member

Tecan has appointed Dr Stefan Traeger to its management board in the role of head of life sciences.

Dr Traeger, who has served as managing director of Leica Microsystems since late 2007, will take up the position on July 1st 2013, bringing extensive experience in life science industry management roles to Tecan.

He was credited with successfully bolstering the performance of Leica's life science division, helping to increase sales and profitability while integrating two acquired companies into its operations.

Tecan's chief executive officer David Martyr said: "During our time together at Leica Microsystems, I came to know Stefan Traeger as a strong leader who has achieved significant successes."

Prior to his time with Leica, Mr Traeger held a number of positions of increasing responsibility within the Carl Zeiss Group between 2000 and 2007 and holds a PhD from the University of Hannover.

This appointment comes as part of Mr Martyr's efforts to build a new leadership team for Tecan following his appointment as chief executive in October 2012.
