Thermo Fisher Scientific launches stem cell culture media
Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the launch of its new HyClone HyCell-STEM and HyCell-STEM-FF stem cell culture media offerings, for use in the growth of human embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells.
The new media products are designed for a range of cell culture applications – including cell signaling, drug discovery and therapeutic research – and are being showcased at the annual International Society for Stem Cell Research conference in Boston this week.
HyCell-STEM is optimised for use with stem cells on feeder layer cultures, while HyCell-STEM-FF is specifically tailored for feeder-free conditions.
Both media offerings can provide increased expansion rate compared to market competitors, with internal testing showing that they yield as many as twice the cells on each passage.
Roberta Morris, business director for Thermo Fisher Scientific, said: "There are exciting discoveries being made in the stem cell area today and researchers demand the highest quality products to increase yields and integrity of their cell cultures."
This comes after the firm also recently demonstrated a number of new offerings at the American Society for Mass Spectrometry annual meeting earlier this month.
