TTP Labtech publishes new TECHnote on RAPid 4

8th July 2009

TTP Labtech has published a new TECHnote about RAPid 4, which is a document detailing the direct acoustic profiling of the hybridisation of DNA using herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 viral sequences.

In the note, the firm explains that HSV causes recurrent mucosal infections of the mouth, eye and genital tract, explaining that after infection, the virus accesses sensory nerve terminals and latency is established in sensory neurons.

"HSV type 1 establishes a lifelong latent infection within the host which can subsequently reactivate to cause recurrent infections and occasionally life-threatening HSV encephalitis," TTP Labtech furthers.

A RAPid 4 instrument was used by the company as a biosensor platform to detect HSV type 1 viral sequences and the firm explained that there are several advantages associated with resonant acoustic profiling over traditional optical label-free detection.

These include the relative insensitivity of acoustics to alterations in solvent when running samples in complex media like whole blood, plasma or serum.

Last month, TTP Labtech issues a new RAPid 4 application note on the Nature Methods website.ADNFCR-1050-ID-19256133-ADNFCR
