Welch Allyn vital signs monitor adds ear thermometer support

Welch Allyn has announced the addition of support for Braun's ThermoScan Pro 4000 ear thermometer to its Connex vital signs monitor system.

The manufacturer is supporting Braun's device as an accessory option for the monitor in order to allow clinicians to take quick and accurate temperature measurements via a simple interface and LCD display.

By adding this functionality to the vital signs monitor – part of the Connex Electronic Vitals Documentation (EVD) System – it becomes the first device of its kind to accommodate thermister oral/axillary/rectal and tympanic ear thermometry accessories simultaneously.

This addition will help to improve the performance of the Connex EVD system in improving efficiency and reducing errors in healthcare settings.

Alisa Salibra, global category manager for thermometry at Welch Allyn, said: "Making an ear thermometry option available provides clinicians with a choice of preferred thermometry technology, taking the already exceptional Welch Allyn Connex EVD System and making it even better."

This comes in the same week that Welch Allyn announced the launch of its new Welch Allyn 1500 Patient Monitor system outside the US and Canada.
