Sigma-Aldrich recognised by Civic 50 for community initiatives

Sigma-Aldrich has been honoured for its commitment to community enrichment through its inclusion in the annual Civic 50 list.

Conducted by volunteer service organisation Points of Light and supported by Bloomberg, the Civic 50 initiative recognises the leading community-minded companies in the US, while highlighting the correlation between civic engagement and overall bottom-line benefits.

Sigma-Aldrich was praised for its achievements in promoting science, technology, engineering and maths education, funding and supporting research into various fields, and promoting economic development by supporting start-up companies.

This marks the third year in a row that Sigma-Aldrich has been recognised by the Civic 50.

Rakesh Sachdev, Sigma-Aldrich's president and chief executive officer, said: "We strongly believe that in order for our company to be successful, the best interests of the communities in which we live and work must be one of our highest priorities."

It was also announced earlier this month that the company's stockholders have approved its imminent acquisition by Merck KGaA, which will help to further establish it as a leading player in the global life science industry.
