Henry Schein acquires scil animal care

Henry Schein has announced it is to acquire scil animal care.

The latter is a distributor of animal health laboratory and imaging diagnostic products and services, primarily serving the North American and European markets.

Stanley Bergman, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Henry Schein, stated: "We look forward to expanding Henry Schein's Animal Health equipment capabilities in North America and Europe with the addition of scil animal care's specialty diagnostics distribution business."

He said the products and services offered by the acquired organisation play a key role in allowing veterinarians to offer high-quality care and increase practice revenues.

Financial details of the deal have not been revealed, but in the 12 months up to September 30th 2014, scil animal care had sales of around $70 million (47 million pounds). 

Dr Hartmut Jaissle, who has been chief executive of the organisation since May 2012, will continue in his role once the acquisition is complete.
