Shimadzu has positioned its Nexera IC ion chromatography (IC) platform as a compact, highly automated instrument for water quality testing, targeting both routine and regulated environmental analytical workflows. Reported on 6 August 2026, the system integrates all essential IC functions into a space-efficient design, paired with intuitive software and a dedicated support programme aimed at delivering consistent results across users of all experience levels.
Ion chromatography plays a critical role in water quality testing, where regulated analyte concentrations of anions and cations demand consistently accurate quantification across drinking water, wastewater, industrial process water and environmental samples. The Nexera IC system is engineered to integrate the essential IC functions (pump, injector, column oven, suppressor and conductivity detector) into a single benchtop instrument, with advanced automation and workflow features to reduce the operator training burden and drive routine throughput. Shimadzu positions the automated eluent preparation feature as a key productivity lever, reducing setup time and the risk of manual preparation inconsistency that has historically constrained laboratory efficiency in high-volume regulated environments.
