MSD Launches Nobivac NXT RNA Feline Vaccine Range in EU
MSD Animal Health has launched Nobivac NXT, a new range of six feline vaccines billed as the first feline protection based on RNA particle technology. Launched ahead of the WSAVA Congress in Warsaw and reported on 27 October 2026, the EU-approved range covers five major pathogens with low-volume dosing and rapid onset of immunity, marking a substantial platform step forward for companion animal vaccinology and intensifying commercial momentum across the global feline vaccine category.
The Nobivac NXT range targets feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV), feline calicivirus (FCV), feline panleukopenia virus (FPLV), Chlamydia felis and feline leukaemia virus (FeLV), with one vaccine in the range covering all five pathogens in a single dose. The RNA particle platform supports low-volume dosing and rapid onset of immunity around one week, with claimed duration of immunity of up to three years against FHV, FCV, FPLV and FeLV, and one year against Chlamydia felis. The range is approved for EU use, is available in Northern Ireland under EU single market rules, and is expected to launch in Great Britain in future. Approximately 3 million RNA vaccine doses were estimated to have been sold or administered in North America over the past two years.
Pedro Silva, EURAM region Senior Vice-President at MSD Animal Health, positioned the launch around the information gap between vets and cat owners. Supporting survey data from MSD shows 69% of 1,330 vets across 14 countries named vaccination as one of three key contributors to feline health, compared with only 16% of 5,000+ cat owners. 27% of non-vaccinating owners cited that their cats were healthy or indoor-only, while 58% named their vet as their primary source of vaccine information. Nathaniel Whitley, vet and RCVS fellow, framed the range as a significant opportunity to address feline vaccine hesitancy and support tailored vaccination protocols. The feline vaccine market has long lagged canine in both uptake and product innovation, with RNA particle technology offering a differentiated platform message for veterinary practice marketing and owner education. Reduced dose volume may also ease the clinical experience for cats, a persistent compliance barrier.
The commercial signal is a maturing feline vaccine category where next-generation RNA particle platforms are reshaping clinical workflow economics, owner engagement conversations and practice preventive care revenue. GB regulatory alignment and continued uptake data anchor the medium-term commercial trajectory. Expect sustained investment in feline vaccination platforms and continued focus on vaccine hesitancy messaging through 2027 and 2028.
