DNA Extraction Lab Technician
Role Overview
You will handle the receipt, storage, and preparation of DNA and microbial samples, operate automated extraction systems, perform quality control analyses, and maintain accurate records. You’ll ensure lab cleanliness, follow SOPs and safety standards, and work collaboratively to meet turnaround targets.

Role Requirements
Receive, store, and prepare DNA and microbial/biological samples for sequencing using automated systems.
Manage consumables, chemical reagents, buffers, and laboratory preparation for daily operations.
Perform laboratory analysis and quality control, accurately recording and validating data on digital and analogue platforms.
Follow and interpret protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, and health and safety regulations in line with UK legislation.
Maintain a clean, organised laboratory environment, including proper equipment care and waste disposal.
Work collaboratively within a team, communicating effectively and completing tasks under supervision while meeting turnaround targets.
Person Specifications
Level 3 qualification (NVQ, BTEC/ONC) or equivalent in a relevant field.
GCSE (A*-C) or equivalent in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Biology.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in IT systems (LIMS, Microsoft, Open Office, Google Suite, etc.).
Laboratory experience, especially in microbiology or molecular biology.
Reliable in performing repetitive tasks with consistent accuracy.
Able to manage own workload and be flexible with work practices.
Can work independently and as part of a team.
Desired
BSc in biological science or equivalent qualification.
Practical experience with nucleic acid extraction and manipulation, particularly from microbial organisms.
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice and/or UKAS standards (ISO 15189, ISO/IEC 17025).
Package
Base salary up to £28,000.
