£1.8bn cash injection into the NHS Pledged

Thanks to the UK’s growing economy, Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled an additional £1.bn cash pot for the NHS.
According to the government, £1bn will be spent on upgrading programs, with the remaining £850m on revamping outdated facilities and giving new equipment at 20 hospitals throughout England, as well as opening a new women and children’s hospital in Cornwall.
With former Prime Minister Theresa May promising the NHS £20bn a year by 2023, there has been some sceptism over this new cash injection as being ‘new money’. Health Secretary Matt Hancock insists that this is not the case, and the money is new. “Healthcare is the Prime Ministers number one priority, and the money will be able to immediately fund bigger wards, better mental health units and children’s hospitals in areas that need it most.”
Independent Charity The Health Foundation has said that this level of funding will only ‘scratch the surface’ and we are still a long way off from closing the gap in health care spending between England and comparable countries.
