2 million Brits confess to not visiting the dentist in over 10 years.
Bupa Dental Care have released a national dental survey revealing that more than 2 million UK adults have confessed to not visiting a dentist in over 10 years, with more than a third admitting that they ignore any dental pain or mask it with pain killers.
The survey also revealed that a quarter of Brits will skip brushing their teeth if they are in a hurry and a third stated they have never flossed or visited the hygienist.
Dr Eddie Coyle, Clinical Director of Bupa Dental Care commented on the survey: “Our survey results have shown a lot of bad habits that have been picked up over the years. Good dental care and dental decay is completely preventable with regular check-ups and simple changes to your daily routine.”
Juliet Hodge, a senior behavioural change advisor at Bupa states that changes can be made to your routine but that ‘consistency is the key’.
“As humans, we are creatures of habit so it’s not always that straightforward to change patterns we’ve developed over a lifetime. When you do something consistently over a period of time, the behaviour starts to become automatic and you are therefore more likely to continue with it long term.”
