8th August 2018

Direct Line Pet Insurance has revealed that 2017 has seen all-round financial increases when it comes to treating our pets. Claims for oral conditions in dogs and cats was up by 25%, and the associated cost with those claims has increased by 4% which equates to around £29 per claim. Such claims were for conditions like abscesses, wounds and ulcers. They have also revealed results from their research that suggest the UK hit a record £1 million worth of claims in 2017 resulting in pet insurance companies paying out around £775m in total.
Head of pet insurance at Direct Line, Prit Powar, said: “Our analysis reveals the importance of insuring your pet against illness and injury, as owners can be left footing bills running into thousands of pounds. Many conditions can be easily treated, so it is important to get your pet checked as soon as you suspect something is wrong. Comprehensive pet insurance provides the vital peace of mind that a trip to the vet won’t always result in a trip to the bank.”
