3M attains Carbon Trust Standard

2nd June 2009

3M has announced this week it has received a new award proving its commitment to greener practices.

The firm has now attained the Carbon Trust Standard, having worked towards decreasing its environmental impact and enhancing levels of efficiency over recent years.

Pip Frankish, 3M’s sustainability manager, said obtaining the certification made it clear to clients and peers that it was acting to combat climate change and was a group worth working with.

"As a company that is committed to doing business in the right way, cutting carbon is a priority for us. It helps the environment and also delivers tangible bottom-line benefits," she explained.

Ms Frankish went on to say 3M had cut the level carbon emissions it produces from its UK sites by 5.6 per cent in the last three years – and this commitment to make operations greener would continue.

Other organisations to have attained the Carbon Trust Standard include Kyocera, Hewlett Packard, O2, Ricoh and the University of Manchester.
