3M Healthcare in safety drive

6th August 2008

The 3M healthcare company has revealed details of a new safety drive designed to coincide with 2008 Road Safety Week.

Unless their cars are stationary, employees of the dentistry supply firm will no longer be allowed to use their mobile phones.

The decision to ban the use of mobiles on the move follows advice the company recieved from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

Even the use of hands-free phone systems will not be sanctioned by 3M in future as it is believed to increase the risk of road accidents.

3M’s managing director in the UK and Ireland Doug Mitchell said: “We have an outstanding record when it comes to the prevention of work place accidents – and we are fully committed to keeping that record whether our employees are on 3M premises or on the move.”

As well as dental products, 3M’s services extend to the delivery of health information systems, as well as surgical and pharmaceutical products.
