Abbott a ‘top place to work’ for scientists

17th May 2007

Abbott has announced that it has been ranked among the top places to work in the pharmaceutical industry in a list from The Scientist magazine. The firm notes that this is the fifth successive year it has been recognised in this manner.

Based on an in-depth survey of scientists working at a number of research institutions and businesses in the field, those responding to the questionnaire assessed their working environment by 45 criteria across eight categories.

These included the opportunities for training and employee development, the quality of the research environment and the effectiveness of communication inside the firm.

According to the list, Abbott was the top-ranked firm for benefits and training and development opportunities for its staff, with the use of networking groups, management training schemes and online tools for mentoring.

John Leonard, vice-president of global pharmaceutical research and development at Abbott, said: “At Abbott we take great pride in this continued recognition from The Scientist.”

He added that being a top-ranked employer assists the company in attracting the best members of staff and maintaining its competitiveness.

Last week, Abbott announced the release of its global citizen report for 2006, noting a strong performance in the field of corporate social responsibility.
