Abbott launches new glucose monitoring system

16th April 2008

Diabetes management could be made easier with the launch of a new monitor onto the market, its manufacturer says.

Abbot’s FreeStyle Freedom Lite blood glucose monitoring system claims to be less painful, needing to take only a tiny blood sample, and easier to use thanks to the elimination of the manual coding and addition of an easy-read meter.

The company has hailed it as a next-generation design that will encourage better health through its ease of use.

Abbot spokesperson Lorena Drago said: “A glucose monitoring device that’s easy to use ? can be an invaluable asset in helping a person gain control of their diabetes today, and their long-term health tomorrow.”

The monitoring system comes complete with an instruction video and brochure.

According to diabetes.org.uk, 2.2 million Brits have been diagnosed with the disease and another 750,000 are unaware they have it.

Numbers of sufferers are expected to double in the next 20 years, the organisation predicts.
