Abbott launches new suite of cataract micro-implantation products

30th March 2011

Abbott is launching a suite of cataract microsurgery products that are designed to help improve safety and treatment success.

The Micro-Implantation Cataract Suite comprises of five components: the Unfolder Platinum 1 Series implantation system, Tecnis 1-Piece intraocular lenses, the Healon clear ophthalmic viscosurgical device and the Whitestar Signature phacoemulsification system, plus various tailored surgical accessories.

When used together, these tools allow surgeons to perform entire micro-surgical procedures in a safer intra-operative environment, which helps to provide better healing and visual recovery.

This will make it easier to conduct a procedure that has been shown to reduce the risk of surgically induced astigmatism in patients.

Dr Roger Steinert, chairman of ophthalmology at the University of California, Irvine, said: "The combined benefits of Abbott's market-leading products are even more prominent now that they are delivered throughout a complete micro-implantation procedure."

Last week, the company was granted CE Mark approval for its new RealTime HIV-1 Qualitative Assay, which is optimised for use in remote or poorer areas.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800481102-ADNFCR
