Abbott named among top science-based companies to work for

Abbott has been included in the journal Science's ranking of the best science-based companies to work for in the world for a 14th consecutive year.

The firm was included in the Science Top Employers list following an evaluation of 23 characteristics, including financial strength, ease of adaptation to change, and whether the company in question has a research-driven environment.

Findings were based on 6,950 completed surveys from readers of Science and other invitees, with 94 percent of the respondents working for biotechnology, biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical companies.

Dr John Frels, chair of Abbott's scientific governing board, said: "We strive to foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within our teams and in our work with others to gain fresh perspectives and further inspire our scientists to continue to push the boundaries on scientific advancements."

Recent Abbott accomplishments include the launch of a new family of next-generation diagnostics systems and innovative diabetes technology that replaces blood glucose monitoring, freeing patients from the need to carry out routine fingersticks.

It has also introduced pioneering neuromodulation technology for people with chronic pain and a first-of-its-kind cardiac device for the treatment of mitral regurgitation among patients who are too frail for open-heart surgery.
