Abbott named as top biotech and pharma employer by Science

Abbott has been named as one of the top 20 biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry employers by a prestigious journal.

The October 19th 2012 issue of Science, which is currently available online, ranked the company in 15th place overall, marking the ninth time that Abbott has been included in this list.

It received high marks for the importance and quality of its research, as well as its social responsibility and employee loyalty, following a survey of more than 4,000 working scientists.

Abbott prides itself on providing its staff with opportunities and training that allow them to grow, develop and succeed, as well as offering a number of internal programmes to recognise and reward their achievements.

Dr John Leonard, senior vice-president for pharmaceutical research and development at Abbott, said: "We strive to create an environment that values invention, creativity and collaboration, which helps top scientists to conduct important work while building interesting and meaningful careers at Abbott."

Earlier this month, the company was included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for the eighth consecutive year.
