Abbott recognised for sustainability leadership
Abbott has been recognised as a leader in the fields of social, environmental and business performance, with the firm being named in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index and Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.
These indices aim to provide a standard for the level of sustainability across the world, with their best-in-class method using analysis of performance in the environmental and social areas in addition to corporate economic factors.
Included in the assessment are areas ranging from risk management, corporate governance, working practices, engagement with stakeholders and supply chain standards to climate change and access to medicines.
Miles D White, chairman and chief executive officer of Abbott, said: “Sustainability is a critical part of our approach to business.
“Operating in a way that creates long-term value for our investors and stakeholders is an expectation of leaders across Abbott, from research and development, to marketing and sales, to human resources and environmental management.”
He added that the firm was pleased to be recognised as a sustainability leader for the third successive year by the Dow Jones indices, with the accolade making the firm in the top 250 of the largest enterprises worldwide in terms of sustainability.
Earlier this month, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks gave Abbott a Preservation Excellence Award for the restoration and stewardship of the 1891-built Ravenswood abode of Wallace Calvin Abbott.
