Abbott to present MitraClip and Absorb products at ACC 2012

Abbott is showcasing a number of new medical technology products at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) annual scientific sessions this week.

The company is attending the Chicago conference in order to demonstrate the latest clinical study findings for its MitraClip mitral valve repair system and the Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold.

Results from a number of trials will show the potential benefits of MitraClip and Absorb, both of which are yet to receive US regulatory approval, but have been available in Europe for some time.

Further presentations will also be given on the Xience V everolimus-eluting coronary stent system, showcasing its commercial success since its introduction.

Robert Hance, senior vice-president for Abbott's vascular division, said: "We continue to strengthen our leadership position with first-of-their-kind technologies such as the MitraClip system and the Absorb bioresorbable vascular scaffold – two devices with the potential to have a significant impact on patient care."

Earlier this month, the company announced plans to ally with Genetics Laboratory to create a molecular diagnostic testing system to help combat microorganisms which cause orthopaedic infections.
