Abbott tops industry in Dow Jones sustainability report for second year

Abbott has once again been recognised as the most sustainable company within its industry sector in the latest Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

For the second consecutive year, the firm was named as the industry leader in the healthcare equipment and services sector. This also marks the tenth straight year that Abbott has been included in the report.

Its overall score of 83 was more than double the average score of 41 for other companies in the industry. It earned the highest industry scores for economic and social performance, ranking higher than 92 percent of its peer group companies for environmental performance.

The firm also performed strongly in terms of innovation management, marketing practices, supply chain management, customer relationship management, talent attraction, corporate citizenship, health outcome contribution, and occupational health and safety.

Miles White, chairman and chief executive officer at Abbott, said: "When making people healthier is why you go to work every day, it shapes the way you think and act, and it breeds a deep sense of respect and responsibility."

This week also saw the company named as one of the top ten US businesses to work for by Working Mother magazine.
