Abbott’s drug proved to treat coronary artery disease

Abbott’s bioabsorbable drug eluting stent has proved to successfully treat coronary artery disease.

The analysis from the clinical trial was published this week in the medical journal the Lancet and revealed that the treatment soaked into the walls of treated blood vessels within two years.

Apparent movement and function similar to unstented arteries once the bioabsorbable device was admitted had also been noted.

John M Capek, executive vice-president of medical devices at Abbott, explained the company has consistently been at the forefront of advances in interference cardiology.

He commented: “Our bioabsorbable device is another example of scientific innovation leading to an interventional breakthrough.”

The business is due to present at the Cowen and Company 29th Annual Health Care Conference on March 17th. Executive vice-president, finance and chief financial officer Thomas C Freyman will make a formal talk at the event.
