AbbVie and Harpoon Therapeutics announce immuno-oncology alliance

23rd October 2017

AbbVie has announced a new research alliance with Harpoon Therapeutics, a developer of novel T-cell recruiting biologic therapies.

The partnership aims to incorporate Harpoon's tri-specific T-cell activating construct platform TriTAC with research-stage immuno-oncology targets provided by AbbVie, with the goal of developing novel cancer therapeutics.

Harpoon will engineer TriTAC molecules directed against selected cancer targets using its proprietary platform and evaluate the molecules for pharmacologic properties, while AbbVie will gain the right to pursue further development and commercialisation of the compounds.

This represents the first such collaboration for Harpoon, which was founded by T-cell therapy pioneer Dr Patrick Baeuerle and is currently developing a promising new treatment for prostate cancer.

The alliance will also allow AbbVie to expand its presence in the field of T-cell therapy research, which it sees as representing the next wave of innovation in cancer treatment.

Dr Tom Hudson, vice-president for oncology early discovery and development at AbbVie, said: "Harpoon's technology offers the potential for a unique approach to engage the immune system through AbbVie's investigational therapies in development."
