AbbVie hails strong business performance in Q2 2015
AbbVie has announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2015, during which it delivered a high level of performance that exceeded expectations.
Worldwide sales came to $5.48 billion (3.51 billion pounds) for the quarter, up by 11.1 percent year over year or 19.4 percent on an operational basis. Meanwhile, its adjusted earnings per share figure was $1.08, up 31.7 percent and surpassing its previous guidance range.
Second-quarter sales growth was driven by the continued strength of Humira and other promoted products, with the expanding global Viekira brand also performing well. Additionally Creon, Synthroid and Duodopa were highlighted for their positive performance.
The three-month period also saw AbbVie achieve a number of key strategic goals, including the completion of its acquisition of Pharmacyclics and the publication of positive clinical trial data for various key pipeline products.
Richard Gonzalez, chairman and chief executive officer of AbbVie, said: "With the completion of the Pharmacyclics transaction, continued momentum from our on-market products and rapid evolution of our robust development pipeline, we are well-positioned to deliver strong performance in the future."
AbbVie confirmed its adjusted diluted earnings per share guidance of $4.10 to $4.30 for the full year.
