Abcam profits ‘exceed expectations’
Abcam has revealed profits which exceed expectations, ahead of the announcement of its year-end trading figures.
The trading update, revealed this week, precedes the planned publication of yearly data, due to be distributed in mid-September.
"Sales in the second half have continued their strong growth trend with the result that the company expects full-year sales to slightly exceed market expectations," Abcam states.
"Due to the stronger sales, together with slightly lower expenses, pre-tax profits will exceed market expectations by about ten per cent."
The Cambridge-based bioscience company adds that sales success has been driven by the marketing of antibodies on its own online catalogue.
Some 33,000 products are now listed in the catalogue, a year-on-year increase of almost 10,000 items, Abcam claims.
The company was founded in 1998 at the University of Cambridge and advises that it produces its own antibodies as well as reselling those sourced from third parties.
