Actavis on shortlist to purchase Polfa Warszawa

1st September 2011

Actavis has been named on the shortlist of companies to purchase the Polish pharmaceutical company Polfa Warszawa, a move that would expand its global capabilities.

Polfa Warszawa's current owner, the state-owned body Polski Holding Farmaceutyczny, has identified Actavis and Polpharma as the two candidates to purchase the business, which is one of the largest in the nation.

If the firm were able to close this deal, it would take possession of a plant for producing ampoules, allowing it to use Polfa Warszawa as a global technology centre for the export of products to other markets.

Claudio Albrecht, chief executive officer of Actavis, said such a takeover would benefit the company's employees and the state.

He said: "The Polish government needs to achieve the best sales return on the asset, but it must also secure ongoing employment and Polfa's flourishing export business."

Last month, the company announced the European launch of Letrozole tablets, a new generic therapy option for breast cancer.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800716700-ADNFCR
