Actelion announces 43% increase in revenues
Actelion has published its results for the 2006 financial year, reporting a 43 per cent increase in total net revenue to CHF 945.7 million (390.95 million pounds), compared to CHF 663.6 million in 2005.
Operating expenses increased from CHF 511.3 million to CHF 677.5 million, with net income rising from 125.5 million to CHF 241.1 million. Sales of orally administered pulmonary arterial hypertension medication Tracleer rose by 42 per cent during 2006.
The company reported a developing pharmaceutical pipeline during the year, stating that its expanding product development portfolio provided the company with opportunities for faster growth in the future.
Jean-Paul Clozel, chief executive officer of the firm, said: “In 2006, Actelion has yet again improved its financial performance, driven by strong product sales and a careful upsizing of our infrastructure.”
He cited the example of the company’s S1P1-partnership with Roche as evidence of its innovative power and commitment to maximising the potential of its pharmaceutical compounds.
Last month, the company announced that it had acquired the shares of CoTherix through its indirectly wholly-owned Curl Acquisition Subsidiary, with shareholders in the company receiving a cash price of $13.50 per share in the tender offer.
