Actelion expresses satisfaction with 2011 performance

14th February 2012

Actelion has published its financial results for the 2011 full-year period, reporting satisfaction with its performance in the face of challenging industry conditions.

The pharmaceutical company generated net revenues of 1.8 billion Swiss francs (1.25 billion pounds) during the 12 months, up by five percent in local currency terms, while product sales rose by seven percent.

This came despite an economic climate that is creating pressure on medication prices, as well as ongoing financial instability, which the company has stated will mean it is now entering a transitional phase in its business strategy.

In the coming year, Actelion will focus on new products and programmes such as the phase III development of its drug macitentan, while it will also be placing emphasis on the clinical progress of ponesimod and setipiprant.

Jean-Paul Clozel, chief executive officer of Actelion, said: "We are focused and committed to optimising the earning power of our business."

This is in line with the new corporate growth strategy outlined by the company last month, which also includes a greater focus on key fields such as pulmonary arterial hypertension.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801291939-ADNFCR
