Actelion headquarters celebrates 10th anniversary

19th December 2007

Actelion has announced that its headquarters, based in the Swiss town of Allschwil, has celebrated its ten year anniversary.

The anniversary also marks the company’s move to becoming a full member of Interpharma – the association of Swiss pharmaceutical research companies.

Jean-Paul Clozel, chief executive officer of Actelion, illustrated that in the ten years the company had grown from a start-up with five founding team members into a profitable global pharmaceutical company which now had three marketed products and an expanding pipeline.

He added that there were five products that were expected to reach the final stages of clinical development by the end of the year.

“Actelion, therefore, is well prepared for the next ten years of innovation and growth, especially thanks to our outstanding work force of close to 1,600 employees.”

Meanwhile the secretary general of Interpharma Thomas Ceuni expressed the association’s delight in welcoming Actelion as a full new member.

He confirmed that Actelion’s successful development was a reflection of Switzerland’s strength as a base for pharmaceutical research companies.

Earlier this month, Actelion announced that, together with Merck, Sharp and Dohme, it had begun dosing for the phase II clinical programme for their new renin inhibitor, with this action marking the fourth milestone for the companies’ partnership.
