Actelion shares to trade on SMI

22nd September 2008

Actelion has announced that as of the start of this week, its shares will begin trading on the Swiss Market Index (SMI).

The blue-chip index represents around 85 per cent of the free-float capitalisation of the Swiss equity market and comprises the 20 largest and most liquid enterprises on the Swiss Performance Index (SPI).

Considered as a mirror for the overall stock market in Switzerland, the SPI is used as the underlying index for options, futures and other financial instruments.

Jean-Paul Clozel, chief executive officer of the company, said: “In just eight years following Actelion’s initial listing on the Swiss Stock Exchange, our ability to create growth and subsequent long-term shareholder value has been recognized by today’s inclusion of our shares in the SMI.”

He added the company is proud to be part of the index which includes some top global companies, with this inclusion being a milestone in the firm’s history and an inspiration to continue its work in drug discovery, marketing and development.

Earlier this month, Actelion announced the appointment of Stephen William Turley as a new member of its board of directors, with Mr Turley taking up the role immediately.
