Actelion’s vice-chairman will not serve another term

30th March 2009

Actelion’s vice-chairman Andre J Mueller has decided not to serve a new term on the board of directors as he goes towards full retirement.

He was one of five founding members and is also the head of the finance and audit committee. Jean-Paul Clozel, chief executive officer of the company, said Mr Mueller has contributed “tremendously” to the firm’s success.

As the business’ first chief financial officer, he helped develop a strong reporting system and a company culture driven by value for stakeholders, patients and shareholders alike, he noted.

“He was instrumental in gaining outside financing for Actelion in its founding days,” remarked Mr Clozel. “We at Actelion are all in his debt and wish him all the best for his future.”

To fill the position on the board, the directors have proposed the application of Dr Michael Jacob, who is currently a member of several other committees.

Actelion’s board of directors has also proposed expanding to accommodate two additional members ? Joseph C Scodari and Elias A Zerhourni.

The former has worked with Johnson & Johnson, while the latter has a history with the National Institute of Health.

Actelion’s headquarters are in Basel, Switzerland.
