Advanced Medical Optics launches new intraocular lens

11th September 2006

Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) has announced the launch of the new Tecnis CL intraocular lens (IOL).

The company claims that this is the “latest advance” to its Tecnis IOL range, which includes blue-modified C PMMA haptics, frosted OptiEdge technology designed to reduce glare.

AMO claims the product is now available in Europe, while the lens will soon be available in the US and Canada.

It is designed to permanently replace the Z9000 and Z9001 Tecnis ranges.

Russ Trenary, AMO’s chief marketing officer and corporate vice president, stated: “The Tecnis CL IOL provides the same FDA-approved claims and excellent outcomes as the original Tecnis lens but with a more user-friendly design.”

“We expect the Tecnis CL lens to speed surgeon migration from older-generation silicone lenses to the superior Tecnis optical design,” he added.

Mr Trenary concluded by saying that the new lens was an “excellent” example of how AMO continues to regenerate its product line.

AMO’s UK headquarters are based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The company employs approximately 3,600 people worldwide.
