Advanced Medical Solutions and Surgical Innovations announce alliance

Advanced Medical Solutions has announced a development and pre-supply agreement with Surgical Innovations for a new medical device.

The arrangement will see Surgical Innovations develop a unique applicator system for the delivery of individual drops of adhesive or sealant internally within the body, to be accessed via a minimally invasive surgical port site.

In return for the exclusive rights to this innovation, Advanced Medical Solutions will purchase all requirements for the approved new applicator from Surgical Innovations for a period of ten years.

This new agreement will allow Advanced Medical Solutions to expand the remit of its business, with the hernia mesh fixation market a key target.

Chris Meredith, chief executive officer of the company, said: "We are optimistic that our partnership with Surgical Innovations will give us a market-leading product … which should be available for launch in 2013."

Last month, the firm highlighted data from a medical study which supports the efficacy of its range of silver alginate woundcare products.
