Agilent launches groundbreaking quadrupole ICP-MS

Agilent Technologies has announced the launch of the world's first triple quadrupole inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS).

The new Agilent 8800 ICP-QQQ device is designed to offer better control of ions entering the collision/reaction cell, meaning reaction conditions remain consistent even if the sample composition changes.

Providing MS/MS operation for controlled and consistent interference removal in reaction mode, it performs better than traditional single quadrupole ICP-MS devices and also incorporates advanced and flexible analysis capabilities.

Agilent states that the device can be set up to operate like a single-quadrupole ICP-MS if necessary and can be used for analysis of problematic elements in various life science and chemical research applications.

Philip Binns, Agilent's vice-president for spectroscopy products, said: "The Agilent 8800 ICP-QQQ is a revolutionary new ICP-MS instrument, offering maximum flexibility for high-end research and for solving difficult analytical problems."

Last month, the company expanded its business with the acquisitions of two smaller life science firms, BioSystem Development and Halo Genomics.
