Alba Bioscience due to expand under new ownership

Alba Bioscience has announced plans for expansion following the acquisition of 100 per cent of its assets and business by Quotient BioResearch.

The acquisition is being funded wholly with equity provided by the current management of Alba and the shareholders of Quotient.

Future expansion plans set in place by Alba will be supported by a large-scale investment programme in the firm’s Edinburgh headquarters by Quotient. The employment of Alba’s 60 will also be secured.

Chairman and chief executive of Quotient Paul Cowan commented: "Alba Bioscience and its management team have developed an excellent reputation for the supply of products that are critical to safe blood transfusion practice."

Mr Cowan added that his company would seek to speed up the introduction of a range of new products currently being developed by Alba.

Diagnostics Scotland was re-branded as Alba Bioscience in 2005 and claims to be one of the world’s largest manufacturers of blood grouping products.
