Alcon launches new Systane dry eye treatments

Alcon has expanded its Systane range of products for sufferers of dry eye with the addition of two new offerings.

The ocular health specialist has introduced the Systane Ultra lubricant eye drop product to the UK over-the-counter market this month, as well as the Systane Balance range.

Systane Ultra has been formulated with the same polymer system as previous Systane eye drops but offers reduced blurring and extended protection from dry eye, according to the manufacturer.

Meanwhile, Systane Balance has been specifically designed to meet the needs of patients with meibomian gland dysfunction and a lipid layer deficiency.

Alcon is now a part of pharmaceutical giant Novartis, following the completion of a merger deal last month that has created one of the largest eye health organisations in the world.

The restructuring has seen Alcon become Novartis' second-largest division, while adding Ciba Vision's range of contact lens products to its portfolio.
