Alcon sponsors initiative for cataract surgery patients
Alcon has announced that it is to sponsor a website initiative for cataract surgery patients and their caregivers.
The website, cataractsurgey.com, is set to provide information on cataracts, intraocular lens options and cataract surgery – along with details on preparing for an eye exam.
Stephen Lane, clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, said that the website is set to improve communication between the patient, the practice staff and the physician.
Vice president of global cataract marketing, Steve Speares added: “Our research shows that there is a need for an informational website to help patients have better discussions with their eye care professionals and increase their understanding of cataract surgery and IOL options prior to surgery.”
A Spanish language version of the website is scheduled to be online in the first half of 2009.
Cataracts are the ?clouding? of the eye?s natural lens, which results in defocused or blurred vision. They are the leading cause of treatable blindness in the world.
