Alcon to use Bruker technology in intraocular lens research
Alcon is to utilise optical surface profiler technology from Bruker to facilitate its research and development initiatives into next-generation intraocular lenses.
The medical device company has selected the ContourGT-X8 microscope to offer non-destructive, non-contact reference metrology for critical dimensioning and 3D characterisation of new optical technology innovations.
Representing the flagship offering in Bruker's optical profiler portfolio, the device provides advanced capabilities in terms of metrology hardware and parallel processing Vision64 software.
Among the other enhancements from which Alcon will benefit are its increased brightness dual HB-LED light source and reduced noise floor.
Andrew Masters, vice-president of strategic marketing and business development of Bruker's nano surfaces division, said: "We are confident that the many innovative enhancements on the ContourGT 3D microscope platform … will meet Alcon's demanding metrology requirements."
Eye health specialist Alcon has been part of healthcare company Novartis since the completion of a merger deal earlier this year.
