Align Technology reports strong growth during Q2 2016
Align Technology has exceeded its financial forecasts during a successful second quarter of 2016.
The company's revenue total for the quarter came to $269.4 million (203.99 million pounds), up by 28.6 percent year on year. During the three months, the firm's clear aligner revenues rose by 21.2 percent, while scanner revenues were up almost 200 percent.
For its flagship Invisalign clear aligners, shipments were up 22.4 percent year-over-year to 177,000 cases, with international shipments up 38.3 percent. Strong demand for the iTero Element scanner also drove this momentum.
In the third quarter of the year, Align expects net revenues in the range of $267.2 million to $273.5 million, with clear aligner shipment volumes anticipated to rise by nearly 20 percent compared to Q3 2015.
Joe Hogan, Align Technology's president and chief executive officer, said: "Q2 was driven by better-than-expected revenue, due to continued strong year-over-year Invisalign volume across our customer base and record utilisation."
The firm also announced a new supply agreement last week with SmileDirectClub, which will see it manufacturing non-Invisalign clear aligners to support SmileDirectClub's at-home programme for affordable cosmetic teeth straightening.
