Almirall aims to complete Aclidinium bromide studies by 2012

Almirall aims to complete additional clinical studies of Aclidinium bromide by early 2012.

In order to satisfy European regulatory requirements, the company ? along with Forest ? has begun implementing a programme to provide further support for higher and/or more frequent dosage regimens.

Consulted authorities on the continent provided feedback for the proposed programme based on the agreement that previous studies had shown the compound to be safe and effective.

As well as investigating aclidinium plus formoterol, the investigations will also look at a potential combination of the compound plus an inhaled corticosteroid.

The company stated: “The franchise opportunity of aclidinium bromide is based on Genuair, Almiralls unique dry powder inhaler device.”

Potential partners are currently being contacted with the firm to discuss development and marketing collaborations.

Earlier this month, Almirall opened the doors to its new London headquarters.

The firm’s general manager for the UK and Ireland Carlos Gallardo explained the new facility would strengthen its presence in Europe and would make a positive contribution to treating patients in the country.
