Almirall appoints new board member

Almirall has announced the election of Gerhard Mayr as the newest member of its board of directors.

During an extraordinary meeting of the company's shareholders, the appointment of Mr Mayr as an independent board member was ratified, bringing total membership of the body to ten.

The Austrian-born pharmaceutical and healthcare sector veteran is the current president of UCB's board of directors, while he is also a member of the board of Lonza.

Over the course of a career spanning more than four decades, he has worked with a wide variety of leading companies and will bring extensive expertise to Almirall.

A company statement said: "His strategic vision, outstanding innovative capacity, leadership in stock market environments and extensive international experience advocate his appointment as board member."

Last month, the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use issued a recommendation of Almirall's Constella, a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome with constipation.
