Amgen and Boston Children’s Hospital announce research collaboration

Amgen has announced a new neuroscience research collaboration with the Boston Children's Hospital in the US.

The one-year partnership will aim to identify novel pain targets based on human genetic analyses, with a focus on patients with genetic anomalies of pain sensitivity. The aim will be to isolate relevant genes and drug targets for severe pain syndromes.

Amgen will contribute its expertise in genetic target identification and validation to the partnership, while taking advantage of Boston Children's Hospital's division of pain medicine to identify patients with abnormal pain conditions.

Targeted syndromes will include genetic disorders that diminish pain sensitivity, as well as the debilitating conditions erythromelalgia and paroxysmal extreme pain disorder, plus hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy.

Dr John Dunlop, vice-president of neuroscience research at Amgen, said: "Amgen is pleased to enter into this collaboration as it underscores our extensive investment and expertise in pursuing targets that have clear genetic support."
