Amgen files new multiple myeloma drug and posts promising sales results

29th January 2015

Amgen, along with its subsidiary company Onyx Pharmaceuticals, has submitted a filing for its new multiple myeloma drug Kyprolis in both the US and the EU.

Kyprolis – or in scientific terms, carfilzomib – is designed to treat a particular strain of myeloma, which is a form of leukaemia.

It has already been approved in the US for patients who have received at least two prior treatments for the condition, but now market approval is being sought elsewhere.

What’s more, Amgen has posted its latest financial results, revealing its performance during the fourth quarter of 2014.

The figures show that the firm’s revenue increased by 6.4 percent over the three month-period, climbing to $5.33 billion (3.52 billion pounds).

This strong performance has led Amgen – which is currently the world’s largest biotech firm – to adjust its expected takings for 2015 slightly, predicting they will reach somewhere between $20.8 billion and $21.3 billion.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801772706-ADNFCR
