Amgen reports positive data from Nplate ITP study

Amgen has published new clinical data that reinforces the efficacy of its drug Nplate in the treatment of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).

The company recently completed the largest phase III open-label study yet for Nplate among adult patients with primary ITP, with around 90 percent of patients achieving a positive response.

Results from the study showed that Nplate was able to deliver a rapid platelet response in adult ITP patients with low platelet counts or bleeding symptoms, while maintaining a consistent safety profile.

Dr Sean Harper, senior vice-president of global development and chief medical officer at Amgen, said data from this and other trials are helping to strengthen the safety and efficacy profile of Nplate.

"Collectively, this data helps build upon our understanding of Nplate's treatment potential for patients with thrombocytopenia," he said.

Last month, the company's product portfolio was strengthened following the European approval of the cancer drug Vectibix in an expanded range of indications.
