Amgen’s UK general manager elected ABPI president
Amgen's John Kearney has been appointed as the new president of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI).
Mr Kearney is the current general manager for Amgen in the UK and Ireland and has 35 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having previously worked for GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer before joining Amgen in 2007.
He will take up the ABPI presidency on April 24th 2015, succeeding Jonathan Emms, who is stepping down from the role after being appointed global marketing lead for Pfizer's global established pharmaceutical business – a move that will see him relocate to the US.
The ABPI represents innovative research-based biopharmaceutical companies of all sizes throughout the UK. Its members supply 90 percent of all medicines used by the NHS.
Mr Kearney said: "I am committed to playing my part by listening to all those involved in planning and providing health services in the UK, and leading the ABPI in its engagement with them."
